Introducing: Legendary Battles
As a child Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k was the primary tabletop game that we played. As an adult, for many years, responsibilities came up and I spent my free time on other tabletop games, mostly boardgames and roleplaying games. Not only that, but the thought of Warhammer and Games Workshop frustrated me because of the way they release new models and new army books, changing prices with the rules to get people to buy the latest models. Clearly, a fun and well balanced game was not their top priority. However, a few years back my dad and my brother convinced me to play Age of Sigmar. That became regular. Then, the group switched to 10th Edition 40k and so, there I was, rolling gobs of dice for my Ork Boyz could take out some Space Marines.
Fast forward a few more years. My son is old enough to sit and roll dice and wants to play miniature games with me and I with him. Age of Sigmar and 40k were both a disaster. Hours long, rolling to-hit, to-wound, saves, feel no pain, etc. It was too complex and too long. So we switched to One Page Rules. I enjoy the fast pace nature of the game and the well balanced armies. This too did not end super well. Small armies are no fun, big armies take too long to play, and the objectives and win conditions are too complex for him to strategize about.
Enter Legendary Battles, a continuation of my own personal classic fantasy world that I have created, starting with our Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, maturing during our years playing Hackmaster, resulting in two published novels, the Heroic Adventures roleplaying game, a second edition of that game, the adventure website where the lore of the world is established, and much more. This "World of Phanoria" has spun off decades worth of passion projects for me and has absorbed thousands of hours of my time over the years. Now I can add a tabletop miniatures game to that list.
Legendary Battles is a very simple and fast tabletop miniatures game for adults to play with their young kids (5+) or slightly older kids (9+) to play alone or even adults to play if they want something quick and simple. Large armies can clash in 30-45 minute battles. Units charge, models are picked up after a few dice rolls, dragons shoot fire, wizards cast spells. After about 30 minutes, one army is decimated and the other is declared with victor.
The rules are free to access along with a free to use army builder on https://legendarybattles.heroicadventures.app/. In this app you can not only read the rules, browse the factions, and create armies but you can also track your battles within your app by selecting two different armies or share a battle link with a friend so that your friend can choose an army from their app and send a link back to you. In this way you both have the battle (including both armies) on your own phone.
The web app is installable, so it will appear as a native mobile app on your phone or desktop app on your computer. It is designed to be slick and intuitive and easy to use.
While I am considering publishing this as a physical book on Amazon, I am currently focusing on honing in the rules, stats, and point costs in the app before I commit them to print. If you play miniature games or are interested in them, give the game a try!
