Introducing: RPG Session Processor

Music notes and a quill pen

Starting with D&D 3rd Edition about 25 years ago, I have been playing tabletop roleplaying games since I was a kid, and have been a GM for just as long. This has led to two novels based on some of our adventures, as well as the publication of Heroic Adventures (with the best initiative system ever!). Given my personality, I take careful notes of our adventures: the worlds we have traveled through at the table, the battles we have fought and the characters we have met along the way. I am nostalgic at heart and like to record every session.

This is labor intensive. Not only do I prep the adventure as the GM, play the game on game night, but I also need to quickly take notes on what transpired. Both memorable moments at the table but also how the plot of the characters in the game world has developed. This work has led to my adventure.alexlockhart.me website where I track the events in the game world, mostly for the sake of me and my players.

This slow accumulation of data is fodder for ideas, especially in the world of generative AI. What could I do with this decade of adventures? Well, time will tell, and I have many ideas. But first... I need to save myself some time...

Enter megazear7/rpg-session-processor, a simple command line utility that takes in an audio file and spits out a short narrative story of the events that took place as well as a set of game notes on what occurred during the session so that I can quickly catch up next time and prep the next session.

I can also talk to it while we are playing saying things like, "Hey Wiz, remember that Ragana is carrying that purple glowing gem." This allows me to quickly "take notes" while playing just by speaking to it. Then it will hear that in the audio and write those notes in it's output.

My next step is to have it push the generated notes directly to my CMS that I use for the website from my phone, so that all I have to do is review, edit, and publish the entries. The future is exciting!
